Paul and I met when our daughters (Erica and Shapley) started at Ten Acre School together in 1984. I thinks we were the oldest dads there, so we immediately hit it off. Everything after that was all about our families and sports.
Paul was a man in motion all the time. Everything we did together was like a marathon. We windsurfed at Duxbury and Martha’s Vineyard for hours and hours. If not windsurfing, he had me swimming to distant sand bars. A simple round of tennis would last 3-4 hours. When we weren’t skiing with the girls, we were going up and down Okemo Mountain with his gold passes as many times as we could before dark.
As you all know, KEANY was a hugger. I was not. I would go to shake his hand and he would hug me. Hugs Hugs Hugs all the time until eventually he kissed me on the cheek. OMG! Help! The only other men I had kissed were my grandfather, father, and my son. Eventually, I became a kissing convert.
I believe that the Keany family invented the “Starter Dog.” It’s a grilled hot dog you have while grilling dinner.
I have missed his goofy overbite laugh.
